NEW WORK

I am starting to use a combination of plaster and found wood in my work.

This is a new way of working for me and exciting to explore how the running themes express themselves in this way. The long lockdown has offered an opportunity to open up new ways of working. Take some risks. Its the best way to move forward.

 

CAVE PAINTING SCULPTURES

I have started working on a series of sculptures inspired by the recent discovery of the oldest known cave drawing in Indonesia. The 'Wild pig'.

I am working in plaster, trying to capture the elemental and earthly embodiment of the animals represented. I want them to have the movement and feel of being raised from the ground. The earth pigments they used were after all from the ground.

The idea is to have some of them cast in bronze.

NEW WORK 2021

Happy new year. Hope his one will be better than last.

I have started working hard in the studio with a number of ideas in flux.

Below is a new work that is in progress. Combining plaster and found wood. I wanted to create a radiating energy with he way the wood is combined. Ray of hope in this uncertain world at the moment.

ART FOR CURE

I am showing some sculpture with Art for Cure at the moment in the lead up to Christmas. They are a great charity, supporting cancer patients. There are 30 artists showing work in this online exhibition.

WOOD GATHERER

Working on a new stick gathering figure. A bramble root washed up at high tide with a fragment of old sea  breaker defence. Two very different types of wood coming together. Work in progress.

GREENWOOD BEECH TREE

Working hard on the new series of Suffolk landscape paintings. This one is in progress and is of a big tree in Greenwood which is local to where I live. It is a great time of year to be in the woodland with light falling through the canopy. This painting is 40x30cm oil on canvas.

I have recently started painting more again. Returning to the Suffolk landscape and the woodlands local to me. silver birches, Greenwood. Oil on canvas 100x80cm. One of a series that will be showing at David Linley London.
